Philosophy & Religion: Gay marriage?

Philosophy & Religion: Gay marriage?

beaker67,

>Not really "degree" of love but there are different kinds of love. There's love in the sense of friendship and respect

Even 'different kinds of love' has degrees of love.

Eg 1:- Lust - I love Britanny Spears more than Christina Aguilera etc.

Eg 2:- Love for partner - I love to go out with the girl but not as much as to marry her.

Eg 3: Love for neighbour - I love to cook for my neighbours once in a while but not enough to do it everyday.

The culimination of the 2nd type of love ends up in marriage. 'The degree' exists in all forms. but society has pre-defined 'nature' and the degree of love that can exist between 2 Men and 2 women.

>Also, I am not sure what your are trying to say when you mention homosexuality existing (and being accepted) early in history. Of course, then the question would be why did people change their minds and decide it was bad?

because society deemed it unnatural, until then it was o.k. The formulation of prejudice against homosexuality, that has killed/harmed/humiliated so many over the millenia's. Atleast now 'some' societies are unwinding to confront it.
